Patients with aHUS typically present with thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia and renal insufficiency.1,2 Extra-renal manifestations are also seen in approximately 20% of patients.1,2 There is no singular diagnostic criterion for aHUS, so the first step in diagnosis is to exclude other causes of TMA.1,2 Complement genetic testing identifying a pathogenic mutation, or complement serology showing abnormalities in the alternative pathway, can support the diagnosis of aHUS.1,2
